Mary Shearer Eckert was raised in the Texas Hill-Country.  She graduated from Junction High School in 1971.  Mary attended Schreiner School of nursing in Kerrville,Texas and graduated in 1980. After working as a nurse for nearly 20 years she retired to live on the Eckert family farm with her husband Dewey.  She now has the time to devote to her first love, that of writing.  Mary has always dreamed of becoming a published author, and that dream has come true with her first book, “Where Was God When I Cried?” the story of Voncil "Peaches" Evans, a young black woman who grew up in the segregated south of the 1950s asking herself many times, where was God when I cried?"

 Mary is the mother of two grown sons, Robert Quinton Mckinney and Travis Zane Mckinney. She has two grandsons, and three adopted grandsons. She loves her quiet country life and spends a lot of time, when she is not writing, working in her garden and taking care of her animals. She also enjoys writing songs, playing her guitar and singing. Mary is a Christian and a active member of River of Life Church in Mason, Texas.
